Once again Christmas looms on the horizon with all the wonderful shoppers getting stressed over shopping, family and arrangements for Christmas. The biggest irony being they really have to do none of it and only do it because they are expected to do it.

So work is constant stream of people worrying and irritated over something which frankly over the years has lost it meaning to the people involved though I still remember some of what it means. Over my life time Christmas has stopped being a religious festival and commercial buy feast to a time when families, friends and people get together to enjoy each others company both drinking, eating and television watch to access.

It has become a shining light in the bleak winter and world when we can forget all our troubles so all the present side and gross commercialism for me has no real meaning any more and a bastion of those who hide behind it because they simply have no real idea how to be a human being in the first place.

My change of attitude over Christmas has meant I have started to enjoy Christmas again with my partner, dogs and those of my family I really get on with. I now remember it is thought that counts not amount or size of presents and being with people who you love at Christmas is far more important than any present.

So those of you out there who see Christmas the same way as myself have a Happy Christmas as such thoughts being back the magic of Christmas for us.

What Christmas Means to Me!

Posted: 11 December, 2015 in Christmas, Comment, Life

There will be those less educated and tolerant Christians who believe that as Agnostic Atheist I would not celebrate Christmas but if they had been observing the word around them especially here in the United Kingdom would of notices at lot of people who now celebrate Christmas are not Christian as such any more.

It strikes me that Christmas has been hijacked by everyone here in the United Kingdom and become more than a Christian only festival though the essence of the festival has not gone but changed especially my end. It has become a festival when families and friends come together to eat and drink at the darkest time of the year when they celebrate families and friends. It has become an dam good excuse for families and friends to enjoy themselves and reconnect.

This all in addition to the Christian side of Christmas which is still important to Christians but now most definitely only another facet of Christmas but not the whole any more. This is regardless of the less educated and tolerant Christians who frankly failed to move on with the times especially here in the United Kingdom.

My personal view this more inclusive and family orientated rather than purely religious festival it has become is more relevant and incisive to our modern world plus it makes it whole thing less stuffy but more fun festival for all.

So ahead a Merry Christmas awaits me and my partner.

What Christmas means to Me!

Posted: 15 December, 2014 in Christmas, Comment, Life

It has become that of year when I think about Christmas and what it means to me as an Agnostic Atheist. On top of which the meaning of Christmas has also changed for me over the years especially over the last few years.

Though it has never been a religious festival to me but more of a mid winter break and celebration to add some light and relief from the dark days of Winter. On top of which it has become a celebration during which families, friends and loved one come together and enjoy a day eating, drinking and generally vegging around in front of the television.

This has always overshadowed the religious origin of Christmas as far as I am concerned and I suspect a large majority of fellow British people have the same view of Christmas. Personally in the modern United Kingdom which is more multicultural it is better that Christmas stops being a Christian festival but a festival for everyone to enjoy.

Misplaced Trivialities!

Posted: 19 November, 2014 in Christmas, Comment, Life

It is that time of year when what people say can really make themselves look so small and trivial with respect to what is currently happening around the world especially those working in businesses which got me really thing about the whole thing.

When you think of it we are surrounded by a world in which people are starving because of ecological disasters most man made, being killed because of their belief, nations are fighting wars or states of cease fire, women are being suppressed and discriminated and my more injustices.

Then I work for and with people who put such things as sales targets, sales figures, league tables and the such as more important than anything else to a point they make peoples lives a misery if they miss any of this which are frankly are such trivial things in the big pictures of things.

It got me thinking about these people in question just how foolish and trivial they sound especially at a time of year when some of us think of people who are less fortunate than ourselves especially those people who are alone at this time of year. That is Christmas which now has become a celebration where families, friends and strangers come together regardless of religion and creed.

It may be than I think too deeply especially about the bigger picture of the world around me but I do see just how such things in reality in the end have no real relevance to the world around us as they are constructs of our society and it’s flaws rather than Universe around us!

Killing the Magic of Christmas!

Posted: 17 November, 2014 in Christmas, Comment, Life

As always the modern world and modern way of doing business is killing the magic of Christmas replacing it with a festival geared around the commercial race to attract people to buy as many presents from the retailers who fall over themselves to attract the customers.

This has resulted each year over the past decades Christmas for the retailers starts earlier and earlier each year along with their winter sales but now each year the sales simply failing more and more to attract the customers who a simply becoming numb or even excited by Christmas itself.

In the end all the retailers are doing is getting themselves in a vicious circle which has ended up both devaluing Christmas and the Sales they depend on as after all if the customer is always faced by Sale almost constantly through the year. So all the retailers have successfully done is kill off the goose which laid their golden egg as after all Sales used to be those special events for short periods of time scatted throughout the year which attracted customers in to spend money and look for a bargain.

Now why should people even bother with Sales and Christmas itself as after all they can buy bargain any time and even on line so now people simply are not attracted to retail stores especially in Sales and Christmas.

My personal view the retailers should wake up to what they are doing as if they continue down the route of constant sales and starting Christmas earlier and earlier it will eventually make the whole process of sales financially a total waste of time and money for them as they will gain nothing from them including more business.

It is one of those things that retailers should step back and really think about what they are doing and one of those times where they go back to times past when sales and Christmas were more special and were both shorter and more intense time periods.

Sadly no one will listen to likes of myself as all retailers and their executives see is the falling profits from their constant sales and rather than doing what everyone else would do step back and study what is happing, they just put on more sales in faint hope it will cure the problem!
